Japan Uni Agency is one of the leading full-service literary agencies in Japan, licensing translation rights to the best of international fiction and non-fiction to Japanese publishers and representing Japanese writers for publication around the world.
Located in Tokyo, Japan Uni Agency had its beginnings in Yano Copyright Office, established as a literary agency in 1967. The company changed its name to Japan Uni Agency when Noboru Miyata became its president in 1970, and for over fifty years since, we have been an integral part of the publishing industry through our licensing services, which have brought and continue to bring outstanding foreign publications to Japanese publishers and the Japanese reading public. We represent books in all genres, ranging from general trade books, both fiction and non-fiction, and business / professional titles to children’s / young adult books.
Japan Uni Agency was deeply involved in the founding of Japan Uni Copyright Center. Our work also extends to negotiating rights licenses of Japanese books to China, Korea, Taiwan, and other foreign countries. We assist translators by putting them in touch with publishing houses and negotiating contracts on their behalf. Through our work, we contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and information on copyright and copyright issues and to the further growth of the publishing industry.
